We're getting along pretty well here at home. Wifey was sick a couple days with upset stomach and headachy, but she's much better again. We're very thankful for that. Now she's just having to cope with some allergies typical for this time of year.

I've been doing double duty at church because we lost our regular song leader. They're paying me for both preaching and leading singing now, but I'll be glad when we get someone else again as the regular song leader. None of the locals in the small congregation is currently in a position to take on that role, so we will be looking for someone to drive there for singing like I do for preaching. Otherwise it's a rewarding task.

School has been back in session for two weeks now, so of course the school buses are back in business too. For some reason we are chronically short of drivers. Today was only the second day this year that I was not needed to drive a bus at least once during the day. Most days I've been driving a route both AM & PM. I have been able to keep up with the office work fairly well, but driving + office makes for a long day. Then I don't feel like doing anything more in the evening.

Today, however, I had the time and energy to work on our van. I got the spark plugs changed and it does run better. Three of them are quite hard to reach so I have a few minor scraps and scratches on my hands and wrists, but nothing serious. Next I need to check the brakes. Maybe tomorrow.

This evening I've been listening to a few old records. (Yes, vinyl LPs.) Some of it has been very enjoyable, but some of it has reminded me why I have not played those records for a long time! The last one for today is enjoyable -- a German men's chorus singing sea shanties -- then it's off to bed for me so that I'll be ready for another early morning tomorrow.

Well, to state the obvious, a new year has begun, whether we are ready for it or not. In my family we enjoyed a relaxed end of 2005 and are off to a good start with 2006. Relatives and friends are still here for a couple more days before returning to college life, and we're glad to have this time with them. We both had to return to work today. I found quite a bit still left over from last year, but made good progress with it.

That's all for now.
